How to Register a Startup 

Company Registration

From being an individual or a team, be a registered entity by setting up a company under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) as Private Limited (Best Suitable for Startups) or Limited Liability Partnership.  When you register your company, don't forget to choose Ernakulam as RoC. It's mandatory to register in Kerala to avail all benefits from the Kerala Startup Mission.

As a first step, Check for name availability.

Once the desired name is available, then download form for applying

Applicant can access the online services in clarifying any of his doubts in applying for registration of firm. Visit the following link for options to help in registering the firm

Applicant shall register with registrar of companies.

Company or firm registration can be initiated with the help of a Charted accountant/Company Secretary.

In registering the company, one has to make sure that the name proposed has not already been used or applied for registration.

Digital signature certificate for the director of the proposed firm has to be acquired.

Then Acquire Director Identification Number (DIN).

Filing an e-Form or New user registration.

Finally Incorporation of the company is done.

Applicant will get MOA and certificate.

As a registered user, applicant shall use the login credentials to login in he home page using the prompts under login and hit Submit to reach the online application page.

If you are a new user then select “New firm Registration” under “Registration” on the right side of the page to register in through the online user registration form and hit “Submit”

Please select the respective option provided on the page to reach the next page.

Applicant will be prompted to fill in proposed name, address, partners details, uploading required documents by choosing the appropriate tabs.

On completing the above in detail and all the page prompts are completed, applicant will be directed to payment for the registration.

Please select the respective mode (money order/cash payment/e-payment) and follow the page prompts to make necessary payment.

Applicant will get a confirmation and reference number in the mobile number provided during registration. Please keep it safe for future reference.

When the registration is successful, user gets notification. User shall view and download the PDF form for firm registration certificate.

Unique ID will help startups to get identified with a single code which can be used in all correspondence of the startup. This ID will help startups to get identified from the single search option provided in the KSUM portal. Any stake holder from the Startup Ecosystem from across the world will be able to quickly go through the profile of the startup.

Unique ID format : DIPP Number/Registered Year/KSUM ID

Who are eligible to be a recognised startup
  • The Startup should be incorporated as a private limited company or registered as a partnership firm or a limited liability partnership
  • Turnover should be less than INR 100 Crores in any of the previous financial years
  • An entity shall be considered as a startup up to 10 years from the date of its incorporation
  • The Startup should be working towards innovation/ improvement of existing products, services and processes and should have the potential to generate employment/ create wealth. 
  • An entity formed by splitting up or reconstruction of an existing business shall not be considered a "Startup"

Government of Kerala has been adhering to the Startup Definition  as defined by the Government of India and has issued Government order for the same vide order G.O.(Rt) No.43/2019/ITD dt 26.02.2019 with respect to the revised startup definition by Government of India.
