Programme

STRIDE Maker Studios Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC)

Role Summary:

The Maker Fellow – 3D Printing & Digital Fabrication will function as a hands- on resource person supporting 3D design, prototyping, and fabrication activities under the STRIDE initiative. The role is skill-based and practice- oriented, with preference for candidates having prior involvement in STRIDE programmes or startup/maker fellowships. Formal academic degrees are not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

3D Design & Prototyping

  • Develop and modify CAD designs for products, components, and assistive devices
  • Convert concepts and sketches into functional, print-ready 3D models
  • Support rapid prototyping, design iteration, and functional testing
  • Prepare and manage fabrication files (STL, slicing profiles, G-code)

3D Printing & Digital Fabrication

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot 3D printers (FDM)
  • Support laser cutting, CNC milling, and basic workshop fabrication
  • Select appropriate materials and print parameters
  • Ensure quality control of fabricated outputs

Maker Studio Operations

  • Support day-to-day functioning of STRIDE Maker Studios
  • Assist in machine setup, calibration, and basic maintenance
  • Ensure safe tool usage and adherence to lab protocols
  • Support material handling and inventory tracking

Training & Capacity Building

  • Support hands-on workshops and maker training sessions
  • Assist students, teachers, volunteers, and project teams
  • Demonstrate fabrication workflows and maker best practices

STRIDE Programme Support

  • Support STRIDE Designathons, Makethons, and device fabrication activities
  • Collaborate with designers, engineers, startups, and institutions
  • Assist in fabrication for STRIDE-supported pilots and projects

Documentation & Knowledge Support

  • Document fabrication processes and design iterations
  • Support preparation of technical notes and demo models
Experience and Skills

Essential

  • Strong hands-on experience in 3D printing, CAD design, and prototyping
  • Ability to independently handle maker tools and workflows
  • Practical exposure to maker spaces, fab labs, or design labs

Preferred

  • Prior involvement in STRIDE programmes
  • Experience as a Startup Fellow, Maker Fellow, or Creator-in-Residence
  • Experience supporting hardware startups or student innovation projects
  • Exposure to assistive technology or inclusive design

Educational Qualification

  • Formal degree/diploma not mandatory
  • Selection based on skills, experience, and portfolio

Nature of Engagement

  • Fellowship / Resource Person (project-based, non-regular)
  • Studio-based and field-linked engagement
  • Flexible hours during events and fabrication sprints

Remuneration : 25000/- in a month

Duration : 1 year term
