Samagra Shiksha Kerala has partnered with Kerala Startup Mission to set up and run Centres for Early Innovation across Kerala. This project is part of the World Bank-aided, centrally sponsored STARS scheme, which aims to promote STEM education in schools and foster a culture of tinkering and making. The project involves setting up lively engaging lab spaces which are safe and conducive for learning and experimenting.

About Internship Role:

The Infrastructure Intern will play a supporting yet vital role in the execution of SSK - Center for Early Innovation project across government schools in Kerala. The role involves assisting in lab space design, infrastructure audits, vendor coordination, billing, documentation efforts and proposing minor refurbishments.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the 2D / 3D design planning of CEI (labs) based on machines & tools in the lab, STEM curriculum needs and infrastructural standards.
• Support the development of standardised lab layout templates, infrastructure checklists, and bill-of-quantity (BoQ) templates to support the procurements
• Coordinate with vendors, contractors, school officials, and other stakeholders to streamline infrastructure activities
• BoQ Preparation, prepare site reports, readiness matrices, and refurbishment action plans
• Track progress of infrastructure works through field reports from school principals & other stakeholders, checklists, and project management dashboards.
• Conduct infrastructure audits of assigned schools to assess feasibility, safety, and readiness.
• Document and escalate implementation challenges related to electrical works, furniture, space constraints, or any other issues.

Requirements:-

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Architecture.
• Students graduating this year who have passed all subjects (till Semester 7 for B.Tech and till Semester 9 for B.Arch) can also apply.
• Proficiency in SketchUp, AutoCAD or other design software for layout drawings and spatial planning

• Basic understanding of civil design principles and construction workflows.
• Working knowledge of MS Excel for project documentation and tracking
• Good communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in teams with minimal supervision.
• Previous work experience or internship experience in infrastructure coordination, design planning, or site supervision.
• Familiarity with BoQ preparation, 3D, 2D layouts, and public-sector implementation contexts.
• Interest in infrastructure for education, STEM labs, or similar innovation spaces.

Internship Amount - 15,000/- per month

The internship offers a unique opportunity to engage in a statewide innovation initiative, work closely with interdisciplinary teams across STEM, design, education, & public systems, and contribute to shaping equitable learning environments.

Internship period of 6 months (extendable based on project need and performance)
